Design by Kor in conjunction with Hot design and GPT have created a new outdoor retail and casual dining precinct. Taking inspiration from food truck parks and capitalising on the interest in pop-up stores and temporary retail spaces, four shipping containers and a significant landscape package have formed Highpoint’s IN:TRANSIT space, shaping a dynamic and non-permanent retail space. Each container has had a variety of services added and incorporates bespoke customised joinery to cater for all tenancy types.
Using an array of fabrics, sewing lines, timbers and metals, a combination of unique and varied seating systems were created. A feature throughout this space is the injection of recycled timbers. The overall pallet of diverse elements has been combined to give this waterfront restaurant in Port Melbourne a harmonious natural flow.
The Wooden Crate
To conjure the sense of being at an open-air market, these mobile activation kiosks are based on the traditional fruit and vegetable crate. Scattered throughout Highpoint’s fresh food courtyard, their frame is constructed with stainless steel, shelled by recycled Queensland spotted gum and finished with organic sealers.
Although these units weigh over 200 kilos each, they are designed to be easily wheeled to indoor or outdoor areas, allowing them to adapt to changing needs. Internal slide out tables and stools morph into a variety of configurations, offering complete flexibility. Some even house sinks, cooktops and microwaves to allow quick and adaptable kiosk options.
